Best Donuts in Wilmington
Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware, the smallest state in America behind Rhode Island. However, it is very close to New Jersey and Pennsylvania, so you will not have to go too far from the city in order to find something. This includes a good donut. Here are the best donut places in and around Wilmington.
1. Sweeney's Bakery
This first shop is one of the last family owned bakeries in the state of Delaware. Sweeney’s Bakery opened its doors in 1957 and has served quality baked goods and donuts ever since. They have a variety of donuts available on any given day, which are made fresh in house. However, the one thing that you have to try is their Crueller. If the donuts do not satisfy you, then this will. They have Hershey’s Ice Cream. There is no better way to finish off a good donut than with some ice cream.
2. Dutch Country Donuts
You will need to take a short drive south to New Castle Farmers Market to find this next donut shop. Find the PA Dutch section of the market and look inside Door 3. There you will find Dutch Country Donuts. This place makes and sells a variety of bagels, donuts, muffins, and pastries on any given day. Try one of their gourmet coffees with your donut choice. Make sure you get there early, though. Otherwise, you will be standing in a long line.
3. Duck Donuts
This next donut shop is a donut franchise. Duck Donuts has one location in Newark, about twenty minutes away from Wilmington. They are unique compared to other donuts franchises, like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts, which only sells a limited selection of donuts at a time. They take a cake donut and offer you a choice of coatings, toppings, and drizzles. You can also get a cup of coffee to drink with your donut creation. You should also try one of their donut sundaes when you get the chance. This particular Duck Donuts store also has breakfast sandwich available.
4. Linda's Bakery
This next donut shop is a short drive over the Pennsylvania border. Find a small community called Garnet Valley and look for the Booths Corner Farmers Market. There you will find a small shop called Linda’s Bakery. Every day, they make their baked goods fresh in house and feature many unique ingredients depending on the season, including blueberry, peach, pumpkin, and strawberry.
