Best Donuts in Orlando
It’s no coincidence that donuts and decadence both start with the letter D. There is nothing so satisfying as this freshly fried, mouth-watering circular piece of dough. While there are a few companies whose names are irrevocably linked to commercial donut sales, there are many smaller companies that offer up some of the best and most unique donuts out there.
There are many shops in the Orlando area where you can find a good donut. Here, we highlight six of the best. When in Orlando, any of these is a must-stop.
1. Donut King
With two locations, Donut King offers some pretty interesting flavors, including their Cinnamon Sugar Cake, Heath Bar, and Powdered Bavarian varieties. You can find them at 208 S. Hwy 27 in Mineola or at their new location, 3716 Howell Branch Rd. in Winter Park. (Winter Park is an adorable town with many shops and restaurants, by the way.) While you are there, check out the New Orleans-style Cajun cuisine menu, too.
2. Bakery Plus
Unassuming from outside, this shop might surprise you with the quality of its donuts, bagels and other baked goods. Open for breakfast and lunch every day except Sunday, Bakery Plus offers an extensive menu. Try the Oreo sprinkled donut for a delicious start to your day. Charming and reminiscent of days gone by, the shop accepts only cash payment, so be prepared before you go.
3. Lard Lad Donuts
No trip to Orlando is complete without a visit to Universal Studios. While you are there, check out Lard Lad Donuts. Serving donuts and ice cream cones and sundaes, Lard Lad is the home of the Simpson’s pink sprinkled Lard Lad donut. The D’oh-Nut Sundae is even yummier; a pink sprinkled donut cut in half, filled with ice cream, and served with a topping of your choice.
4. Teak Neighborhood Grill
If you are in the mood for something different, Teak Neighborhood Grill is the place to try. With a full lunch and dinner menu, their focus is on a full dining experience. But their treatment of the donut is anything but standard. Try their Glazed Donut 13 and prepare to be amazed. Warm glazed donuts with American cheese and crispy bacon will change your perception of the correct way to eat a donut forever.
5. Valhalla Bakery
For the health-conscious, this is a wonderful option. Serving up vegan and vegetarian-friendly desserts, Valhalla’s promise is that “all desserts are 100% vegan friendly and not healthy at all.” With Celine Duvoisin at the helm (she is a nine-year veteran of Public bakeries), there is no question of the quality and taste available here.
6. Oscar's Donuts
Oscar’s has an extensive menu and it’s all about donuts. From cake varieties to specialty donuts and donut holes, this shop offers something for even the most discerning taste. At 95¢ each and $9.00 a dozen, they are economical, too. Located at 708 S. 14th Street in Leesburg, Oscar’s is a great place to check out unique flavors like the Maple Bacon and Key Lime donuts.
