1. Blue Star Donuts

In a city filled with “rising stars”, Blue Star stands out as one of our favorites. Their unique, classic brioche recipe is unlike any other donut you’ll find in the city. Light and rich with a tender crumb, this French dough recipe takes 18 hours to perfect and is made fresh daily. The bursting, natural fruit flavors in menu favorites like the Blueberry Bourbon and Passion fruit are in large what makes this Portland import such an L.A. hot spot.

2. Blinkie's Donuts

This mom-and-pop shop tucked away in a strip mall in Woodland Hills proves that you don’t need to be fancy to be fabulous. They offer the freshest variety of all the classics like old-fashion glazed, crullers, cinnamon rolls, and if you can’t decide between a vanilla or chocolate glaze, the black and white donut gives you the best of both worlds. Just make sure to get here extra early because the donuts sell out quickly!

3. Cofax Coffee

Self control goes straight out the window when you visit this breakfast-burrito-and-coffee emporium. And yes, they serve donuts too! Devilishly delicious donuts crafted by resident pastry chef Nicole Rucker. With many fantastic flavors to choose from, including spiced crumb, lemon pistachio, and compartes chocolate chocolate, it’s hard to pick just one.

4. SK’s Donuts and Croissants

There is something for everyone at this modest 24-hour shop, even our four-legged friends thanks to the convenient walk-up window. Hey, fido gets fritter cravings too. Keep it classy with one of their famous apple fritters or go Skronuts and enjoy a strawberry Nutella or blueberry cream cheese cronut, SK-style. We’re also obsessed with the “pink ones” (pink-glazed with sprinkles); a homage to Homer Simpson’s favorite flavor.

5. Kettle Glazed

This donut shop in Hollywood has a cool, retro atmosphere with a few modern pleasantries; exactly what you can expect from their menu, too. Cross old-school donuts with mainstream flair and you get decadent creations, such as lemon square, raspberry vanilla bean, and old-fashioned blueberry with maple bacon. If you’re crazy for cronuts, there’s no shortage of delicious variations. The chocolate drizzle and pistachio are always popular choices. They even have Cruffins (cronut muffins)!

6. Bob’s Coffee and Doughnuts

A trip to the famous Original Farmer’s Market at The Grove isn’t complete without a belly full of treats from Bob’s. Apple fritters, jumbo cinnamon rolls and all the traditional favorites are served fresh daily alongside urn-brewed/specialty coffees and teas. There’s also creative dinosaur, kitty and M&M-covered donuts for the kids and “kids at heart.”

7. DK’s Donuts & Bakery

Another strip mall gem, this Santa Monica donut spot is a mecca for cronuts (or “o-nuts” as DK calls them). Honorable mentions go out to the caramel Snickers and Nutella strawberry swirl. But when it comes to breakfast, the Wow-nut is a clear winner. It’s a waffle and donut in one served with homemade icing and yummy toppings of your choosing. Their specialty donuts are also to die for. If you haven’t had an ube purple yam (purple crumb, purple cream cheese, toasted coconut, bacon, and pistachio), you haven’t lived.

8. Donut Friend

Three years ago, drummer and music producer Mark Trombino traded in his drumsticks for donuts and opened this adorable, made-to-order donut shop in Highland Park. The walls are covered in murals of cute animals playing donut instruments, and the donut of the day is your choice with unlimited fillings and toppings. We may have just discovered heaven on earth. If you’re in a hurry, grab one of their “band-name” signature compilations like Bacon 182 or Rites of Sprinkles.

9. The Donut Man

When it’s strawberry season in Glendora, “it’s time to make the donuts.” The signature strawberry donut is not only the shop’s most popular but one of Los Angeles’ most iconic pastries. Fresh strawberries are overstuffed into a split, yeast-raised glazed donut and then drizzled with more glaze. Their Tiger Tail (a foot-long glazed chocolate twist) and Bavarian cream are also amazing.

10. Randy’s Donuts

The giant donut that sits on top of Randy’s Donuts is a celebrity in its own right, featured in countless movies and television shows. But the truth is, the donuts inside are really the lead actors in this pastry production. All the classics like glazed, sprinkled, jelly-filled and more are done to perfection, and the prices can’t be beat. They also have a 24-hour drive-thru, so you can get your donut fix at any time of the day.

11. Sidecar Doughnuts

Santa Monica finally has some donut street cred thanks to the addition of Sidecar and their unique flavor selections made fresh every hour. We’re huge fans of the Green Eggs & Ham number (raised donut filled with a poached egg, Niman Ranch ham and a house-made green hollandaise). Yes, we would eat them in a boat, with a fox, here or there, and anywhere!

12. Zelda’s Corner

This shop in Venice Beach not only makes great sandwiches, but their mini donuts are out of this world! These marvelous minis are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and made-to-order in batches of 12 or 30, perfect for sharing. Who are we kidding? The only sharing that will be going on is selfies of you stuffing your face with donuts.

13. Fonuts

Fonuts is all about guilt-free donuts that taste just like their fatty counterparts but way healthier. Made from natural ingredients and baked or steamed to perfection, never fried, these faux donuts fit right at home in health-conscious L.A. There are old faithfuls (i.e. Hawaiian and salted caramel) and gluten-free and vegan varieties like coconut and passion fruit. Now we can have our donuts and keep our 6-packs too.
