Best Donuts in Charleston
If you find yourself in the middle of Appalachia Country, you will find yourself in West Virginia looking for a chance to enjoy the majesty of its mountains and the quietness of natural. You are not looking for the hustle and bustle of the big city. Therefore, when you visit Charleston, the capital city of West Virginia, do not expect to find anything fancy. This includes donuts. You are not going to find those artisanal donuts shops like the ones in New York City. However, if you are looking to buy a donut in Charleston, these are the best places to go.
1. Krispy Kreme
This list begins with one of the biggest donut franchises in the world. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts has one location in the Charleston city limits. Yeah, Yeah. Listen to the comments. “I want to go to a unique donut shop that sells creative and wild donut creations. I do not want to go to a donut franchise giant that pumps out assembly-line donuts that are not unique.” Well, do not knock them just because it is “big donut.” Krispy Kreme started out as a little donut shop in 1937 just like every other donut shop. They would not have grown as big as they are today if they did not make a quality donut. They have a huge selection of donuts, so you are sure to find something to your liking. They also have various coffees and other drinks that you can pair with your donut choice. Even though their donuts are not original pieces of art, they work if you want to satisfy that donut craving.
2. Donut Connection
Now, if Krispy Kreme is too big of a franchise for you, then try this donut franchise. Donut Connection has two locations within five miles of Charleston, so you should find them fairly easily. Just like every other donut franchise, they will have a large selection of donuts and baked goods on any given day. They have cake donuts, donut holes, filled donuts, and ring donuts. Their baked good selection includes many delicious items including bagels, cookies and muffins. To drink, they have a nice selection of coffees. You will find something to satisfy your donut craving, but do not expect to find anything unique or artistic. These are regular donuts for regular people.
3. Spring Hill Pastry Shop
Now, if you were unsatisfied with the previous two entries on this list, then you should be happy with this next bakery. Spring Hill Pastry is a family owned bakery that opened its doors in 1948. Since then, the family has operated the Charleston shop and has kept it going strong for almost 70 years. This bakery offers a host of tasty treats and baked goods, including donuts. Their donut selection boasts of the classics like the Glazed, the Chocolate Iced, and Cinnamon as well as some “fancier” options like the Bavarian Filled, the Raspberry Filled, and the Cherry Filled. Of course, do not forget about their Donuts Holes. However, if there is one thing on their menu that you must try when you visit this little shop, it is their famous “Hot Dog” pastry. Be sure that you order these delicious pastries ahead of time because they are very popular and they may be gone before you arrive.

4. Moxxee Coffee
This last place on this list is not a bakery or a donut shop. Moxxee Coffee is a coffee shop that prides itself in the quality and diversity of its coffees and teas. Before you pick up your touches and pitchforks, listen to this. Donuts and coffee are two things that just find ways to be together. Therefore, if one of these partners “lives” somewhere, most likely you will find the other. They get their coffee and tea from some of the best places from around the world. They do have pastries and donuts available but you will have to try your luck because they do not have a set pastry menu.
