Vermont is state full of mountains and natural beauty, but you would not expect to find a city of artistry and creativity there.  Clearly, you have not been to Burlington.  The city is just south of the Canadian border and sits right next to Lake Champlain.  It is a hub of culture and creativity, including the donuts.  If you want to get a good donut in Burlington, go and try out these places.

1. Koffee Cup Bakery

Koffee Kup Bakery opened its doors in 1940 and has put its seventy years of baking experience to good use ever since.  It is a family owned bakery that makes their baked goods with pride and healthful ingredients.  Each one of its donuts has that fresh-out-of-the-oven taste.  Its best donuts are the Cruller and the Buttermilk, but you should also try the Chocolate, Glazed, and Jelly donuts.

2. Scout & Co

This next shop does not specialize in donuts but deserves a spot on this list.  Actually, Scout & Co. does not make their own donuts.  They get them from Miss Weinerz and only serve them on the weekends.  However, they do serve a nice selection of coffees and make their own special ice cream.  They source their coffee from all around the country and use high quality ingredients to make their ice cream.  For the donut lover, the best thing to do is to visit there on the weekend and enjoy a donut with a cup of coffee or a bowl of ice cream.  They have three locations in Burlington, so you should find them easily.

3. Monarch and the Milkweed

This next place puts its own spin on its identity.  Monarch & The Milkweed is not a bakery, but not a diner either.  However, you can find their creative touch in each one of their creations and dishes.  The staff prides themselves in providing food that everybody loves at any point of the day.  Come in for a good breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  A master artisan named Andrew LeStourgeon makes the donuts.  Visit Monarch & The Milkweed yourself and experience its fine donuts.

4. Nunyuns Bakery & Cafe

This next shop is one of those old time shops where people can just sit together and enjoy some great food.  Nunyums Bakery & Café serves some tasty breakfast and lunch dishes.  They also serve up some mighty fine baked goods, including donuts.  If you look at their menu, you may think that it is too simple.  Simple is not a bad thing when it comes to donuts because they taste good no matter how simple they are.  The shop uses the best ingredients and work hard to make every detail perfect, so you know that their food is good.

5. Quality Bake Shop

This last shop is a short fifteen-minute drive to Essex Junction.  Quality Bake Shop is a small shop where you can enjoy a good breakfast or lunch.  They also have a nice selection of baked goods and donuts for your pleasure.  This is the kind of place where you can take your family on a nice morning and enjoy each other’s company as well as a good donut.  It is not a fancy place, but it is a comfortable one.
