Best Donuts in Billings
When you think about the city, you think about busy streets and skyscrapers reaching for the sky. That is not Billings, Montana’s biggest city. People do not go to Montana for the city life. They go because they want to get away from the city. However, sometimes people get cravings when they are out in the wilderness. What better way to help satisfy it than with a donut. Donuts shops in Billings are hard to find but are worth the adventure and the trip. If you find yourself in Billings with a craving for a donut, travel to these great donuts shops.
1. Log Cabin Bakery
The name of this first shop gives you that wilderness feeling. Log Cabin Bakery makes and sells a variety of donuts, pastries, and others sort of delicious desserts as well as different breads. They do things the old fashion way by making their creations from scratch using only the best ingredients. You will have to wake up early though because they are only open in the mornings. If you find yourself in Billings on a Saturday between the months of July and October, you can find them at the local farmer’s market.
2. Heiko's Bakery
This next shop makes donuts as a poet writes poetry. Heiko and Susan Kaas opened Heiko’s Bakery in 2007. Their overall donut selection does not offer anything too exotic. They serve the basics like the Glazed, the Chocolate, the Bavarian Cream Filled donuts as well as Apple Fritters. However, they must be doing something right because the Billings’ Gazette has awarded them the Best Bakery Award in 2008, 2010, and 2012 as well as the Best Donuts Award in 2009 and 2011. That is five consecutive year of winning awards.
3. The Rollin Donut
This next stop, or rather food truck, embraces the western tradition of traveling from place to place. The Rollin Donut travels around the state of Montana selling their mini donuts at many fairs and festivals. They make their mini donuts using only the best ingredients and canola oil.
4. Granny's Gourmet Donuts
For this next shop, you must be willing to travel. If you drive two hours and twenty minutes west on I-90, you will find the city of Bozeman. Here you will find a small donut shop called Granny’s Gourmet Donuts. You can try their delicious donuts, including classics like the Vanilla Cake Donut, the Glazed Raised Donut, and the Chocolate Iced Donuts as well as fancier creations like the Raspberry Donut, the Orange Cream Donut, and the Boston Cream Donut. This is a place where you can eat a good donut while enjoying the company of great people. However, you will need to bring your cash because this place does not accept credit cards.’

5. New Day Bakery
If you are not sick of traveling, drive five minutes further west to Belgrade, Montana. Here you will find New Day Bakery. The family owned donut shop sells all kinds of pastries. However, their expertise is in their donuts. If you do not think that a few delicious donuts are worth the two-hour trip from Billings to Belgrade, think again. New Day Bakery has a special item on their menu called the “Big Ol’ Donut,” which can be shared with friends. However, you have to order it ahead of time. You can call and order one of these specialties two hours ahead of time, drive to Belgrade, and arrive to one of the biggest donuts that you will ever see in your life. That is a trip worth taking.
